With lightness, agility and comfort, the chair under the cantilever chairs of the Bauhaus era puts all heaviness and sluggishness in the shade. In 1930 the modern attitude to life conveyed by the S 35 was visionary, today it is part of our mobile and individual way of life. With the S 35, Marcel Breuer succeeded in constructing all the functions of a free-swinging tubular steel chair in a single continuous line, which also includes the armrests. Breuer achieved with his design a double cantilever effect. Seat and armrests spring independently. The swinging motion of the rear-projecting seat and back frame is balanced with the resilient armrests. For added comfort, there is a matching footstool - also constructed free-swinging.
